Navigating Challenges with Confidence
This presentation is predicated on the need to address racial justice, equity, and belonging within the coaching industry, particularly in the context of white-dominated or perceived ‘white spaces’. This includes recognising the challenges faced by African-descended coaches in such environments and the importance of fostering resilience and empowerment.
Dr Rhamie’s discussion also delves into the impact of racial justice movements, such as Black Lives Matter, on the coaching profession, and the need for anti-racism resources and support for individuals, coaches, leaders, and organisations. Additionally, it involves reevaluating the concept of resilience in light of racism, ‘othering’, and resistance, particularly concerning Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority individuals and families. The aim is to create an inclusive and supportive coaching ecosystem that acknowledges and addresses the systemic issues related to race and racism while promoting empowerment, psychological safety, and freedom for all individuals within the coaching industry.
Dr Rhamie will frame his session within a four-stage progression, punctuated by the questions: “What is going on?”, “Why is this going on?”, “What ought to be going on?”, and “What action must we take?”
